More Switchplates

Out of curiosity I did a google search for switch plates just to see what's out there?

The answer is everything!

I was truly amazed at the variety available. I am certain that no one would go away disappointed with the variety. I thought I would share some with you. I tried to embed them with links but I couldn't do it for some reason. I need to run out and do some errands but when I return I'll post the links under each one.

Bright Colors Owl

This is one of my favorites because I like birds and I collect owls.

There are several different color patterns for this one.

I think I'll buy one of these for my office.

Talavera Switch Plate

This reminds me of photos I took at Sanibel Island.

I'm wondering if there is a place that could make these using your own photos.

I think these are especially pretty, they would look really nice in my house.

But I plan to do a lot more research before I decide because I found so many that I like.

Our son-in-law is a train engineer and also collects model trains.

I like these but I would prefer them in a cream color and a little antiquing.

I could do the color change myself if I can't find them in the color I want.

Another that I really like. I think this would be very pretty in my hall bath.

I'm not sure I could choose just one. But why should I, I have lots of rooms :o)

Blocking Board (another ford project)

A couple of years ago I crocheted this sweater. I needed a blocking board to block the squares so it would have the right shape. I searched for board on-line and even went to some local stores but the prices were way to high for foam board covered with fabric with lines on it. Especially for the size I would need to block sweaters and such. So I blocked the sweater by eye and as you can see it turned out well. Well enough to win me a blue ribbon.

But I still wanted a blocking board but I wasn’t about to pay the price they wanted for them commercially. So I pondered it for awhile and then it occurred to me that a gingham or plaid fabric would work for what I needed.

G bought me a piece of foam insulation at the local home improvement store, I cut it to the size I needed and then covered it with a scrap piece of quilt batting I had in my crafts closet. I pulled it tight and pinned it around the edges with straight pins, then glued the batting to the back. Then I covered over that with this gingham like print fabric and again I pulled it tight and pinned it around the edges until I could get it hot-glued to the back. It works like a charm.


That’s a little crocheted pot-holder I found at a local thrift shop, I washed it and then blocked it so it would hold its shape better. Eventually I hope to work out the pattern for it, when I do I’ll post it for anyone who’s interested.

Falling Leaves

As I mentioned before October is the best time of year for me. I love the weather, the change in the trees, the events and holidays; I love it all.

I also love crafts and always have more than one project going. That part can get very overwhelming but occasionally a project comes together and it makes all the clutter and confusion seem worth it. I had one of those moments the other night.

Last October while sitting in a parking lot I noticed some beautiful leaves just over the fence. So I grab my handy clippers that I keep in the car for just such moments and clipped off a small limb. I brought it home and put the leaves in an old phone book. After watching Martha Stewart hang paper spiders inside a lamp I remembered the leaves and got to thinking.... wouldn't they look cool inside the lamp shade were the light could show off the color. And they would be appropriate for November as well as October, after all I do have a life and can’t spend all my free time decorating the lampshades.

I pondered the project for a moment, I could hang them in the lamp but I didn’t really want to go to all the trouble of threading leaves onto the lamp frame. Then I had a light blub moment... literally. I got my hair spray and the old phone book with the leaves. I brought them into the living room and this is what I did with them...

All it required was a light coat of the hairspray and then I put them ‘stuck’ them on to the inside of the lampshade. I think their rather pretty and the best part is the when I get tired of them I can just peel them off. I’m thinking of trying snowflakes for winter.
